Music Genre
This competition is open to all different types of musical genre, but you are advised to contact a number of local venues in your area that are running the competition to check that the music you play will be favoured by the crowd on the night.
Playing a set at the venue
- Once you have registered your interest on this site – the venue of your choice will be notified, and you should receive a call within 48 hours. However – please feel free to contact the venue directly – all contact details of venues can be found on www.ukcn.com
- Prior to playing your set, you are advised to contact the venue where you will be playing in order to check on the type of equipment that is used. Familiarise yourself with this equipment before you play in front of an audience!
- You may be required to go to the venue before your set for a qualification set (depending on the number of applicants for that club) or to be shown the equipment and check that you can actually DJ live.
- Mixing must be done live on the night, and you should bring your own music.
- Although it is usually fine to use additional equipment such as Serato, it is recommended strongly that you should check with the venue where you are set to play that they can do this.
Entry forms & application fee
- Entry this year is free!
- Apply really easily – simply phone the venue or register your interest online and we'll contact you!
- Go to www.ukcn.com where you will be able to find the club details for where you wish to play. Only the clubs on www.kingofthedecks.co.uk are hosting a King of the Decks event.
Judging
Judging at most venues in the first rounds will be done by crowd reaction – for this reason it is essential to bring your friends for support. Set up those Facebook events and promote yourselves!
In some venues, particularly in the later rounds of the competition, judging is likely to be carried out by a panel of experienced professionals – who will be looking for an equal measure of:
- Technical/Mixing Ability
- Music Programming
- Style & Performance / crowd interaction / vocal presentation / entertainment quality
- Crowd reaction
Who can enter?
King of the Decks is a contest set up to find the UK's best undiscovered DJ. We want to find amazing DJs who have not yet had the chance to demonstrate their skills on a big scale. For this reason - if you currently make a living out of DJing, or have a residency at any Luminar venue, unfortunately you are not able to enter. Any contestant that is found to be signed or works regularly as a paid DJ with a residency at a venue may be disqualified.
The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
